Ways to Create Beautiful Boudoir Photography

Most people confuse Boudoir photography with nude photography. Boudoir photography can sometimes include nudes however it is not intended to be pornographic. Boudoir is a French word which means a lady’s dressing room or bedroom.

Boudoir Photography signifies photography of women in a more intimate and sensual way than “sexy”. In more strict terms, boudoir photography includes a Bride’s “getting ready” photographs and her party before a wedding in her dressing room.

It is extremely important to understand that boudoir photography is completely different from porn/pornography. Pornography is a rarely inspired and stark recording of sexual acts and nudity created solely to invoke sexual desires. Very rarely a true boudoir photography involves nudity and nor the poses are necessarily immodest. Having said that, here are some easy tips to help you create tasteful and classy boudoir photographs:

Keeping it modest
Boudoir photography is about elegance and poise. Keep the poses modest, avoid sprawled out poses with open legs. A slight twist or turn of the shoulder and head can produce a very intimate look that is far from being blatant. The purpose is to create an intimate and sensual portrait, one which is neither crude nor garish. There is no need for models to be lying down neither there has to be a bed as a prop. Instead a relaxed and tranquil pose on a lounge is appropriate enough for boudoir photography. Remember to experiment with angles like the ones you would see when speaking to the subject or standing close to her.

Lighting
Lighting must be soft for boudoir photography. Very strong lighting can stimulate harsh feelings of intrusion whereas soft lighting helps in adding a touch of intimacy to the photographs. Clear colors are pleasing however it should not create insensitive shadows in boudoir photography. Soft diffusers and boxes (whether bought from the store or home-made) are essential for boudoir photography.

Clothing
More is often less with boudoir photography. Covering the body is more effective as compared to revealing it. A modest negligee covered partially with a sheer robe will catch the mind’s attention for much longer interval than nudity. If nudity is involved, which is not that common in Boudoir Photography, be really careful to show it only in parts or else the image will become more invasive and less intimate.
